Rabbit R1 Review

Rabbit R1 Review
The Rabbit R1 does not feature the DANGRUBB logo. This photo was doctored with GIMP.

Our series reviewing useless orange handheld electronics finally has its second installment. This time with brighter orange.

The R1 is, as many have stated before, just an Android portable with a funny little button/wheel and a flipping camera. This is true. It comes loaded with an app named "RabbitLauncher" which works 'seamlessly'. The user must simply press and hold the grey side button and speak, then let go when they're done - walkie-talkie style. The app will then decide where the query needs to be sent for an answer. It grabs answers from OpenAI's ChatGPT, Perplexity AI Web Search and sometimes Yelp. The result is a snappy tool that will give AI answers to most questions you ask it. Of course current AI answers are mediocre at best. This is expected from Auto Correct's fancy new upgrade. The R1 can also order DoorDash to the wrong address and tip the driver the maximum amount.

To summarize, the R1 from Rabbit is kind of useful. It's quicker to start than ChatGPT on a phone and is very easy to spot when left on the couch. The RabbitLauncher app can be installed on most android phones and it does work when patched. If your phone can do it, what's the point? Why do I own a calculator?
